Alumni Rafting Trip

We're bringing you back to reality.  This three day rafting trip involves conquering class III rapids in the scenic Klickitat Canyon, cycling on a historic road along the calm lower Klickitat, and helping Washington State Fish and Wildlife with a service roject in the nearby wildlife refuge.

Day 1:White Water Rafting

We start today by meeting in the MAC dining hall at 8:30am.  We will bid farewell to the current out going teams, reunite, and get to know new folks.  After breakfast we load up the trailers and head to The Klickitat for the start of our adventure.  An experienced river guide will lead us down class III rapids while we actively paddle through some of the most scenic rafting and kayaking in Washington.  Our spike-out this evening is on a forested island in the midst of the torrent.  Here we will enjoy dutch oven cooking and stories around the campfire.

Day 2:White Water Rafting

Wake up with the sun for another fabulous day of paddling.  We will have lunch on the side of the river, accompanied by hot drinks and tranquality.  Once at our campsite there will be time for on foot exploration, swim hole dipping, fishing, and wildlife watching on your own.  Dinner tonight will be served hot off the grill.  To cap off the evening, after our bellies have settled, the costumes come out and the dance party begins.  In the words of the great Garry Hanley "It's okay to get loose... ".

Day 3:Cycling and Service

Today we change our mode of travel and hop on some bicycles provided by the MAC.  We will ride the historic Klickitat Highway down the lower river section.  Here the water is calm and the river is wide.  The road is no longer open to motor vehicles but provides cyclists with a great escape and a smooth ride.  The rigs that wait across a bridge over the river which will be our transportation to the service project.  The project will help the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife manage the Klickitat Wildlife Refuge, home of the endangered Western Grey Squirrel.  Upon our return to Trout Lake in the evening, for those who wish to stay, we will watch a slide show of our years of service during dinner.  Hooray for the great outdoors, hooray for Alumni Trips!

Opt. for River Kayaking

If you have experience floating whitewater in a kayak and would like to join this trip in one of your own please do.  If you would like to use an inflatable kayak from the MAC then please let us know when you sign up.  You will need to come one day early (Sunday June 1st) and get checked off by a guide.   We will also provide some inflatable kayak training, at Northwestern Lake, on Sunday June 1st, for those who wish to participate.  We will determine at the end of the day of practice if you will be clear to use a kayak on the alumni trip.  Otherwise join the paddle team in a raft for a great trip.
