Step 1Complete your application in one of the following two ways:

Option A:  **PREFERRED**
♦ Online at the AmeriCorps website

To apply using the online AmeriCorps website, please use the following steps:

♦ Go to My Americorps to complete your profile.

♦ Once you have logged in, create an application by clicking "Applications" under the "My AmeriCorps" menu.

♦ To apply for one of our positions, click "Search Listings" under the "My AmeriCorps" menu and search for program name Northwest Service Academy-MAC

♦ Select the position listing and click "Apply Now" at the bottom of the page.

Option B:

Use NWSA/AmeriCorps forms and submit them via email, mail or fax, to the center you are applying to:

AmeriCorps Application - One application can be used for all of our positions.
Reference Form - You will need two written references to complete a Member or Intern application and three written references to complete a Leader application.

Step 2Submit these additional materials promptly (email preferred except for Certification Form). Your application will not be complete until all of the below materials are received.

Field Team Applicants:
1.  A resume and a cover letter for each position in which you are interested.
2.  Certification Form - This document must be mailed to the NWSA office with an original signature (email or fax not accepted).

In addition, Field Team Leader Applicants should submit:

3. Completed Driver Certification Form and Safety Agreement (Form 27) (can be emailed with your name typed in signature field)

4.  Email answers to the following questions:
    a.  Briefly describe your experience supervising, leading and teaching others
    b.  Briefly describe a problem you encountered in your prior experience and how you addressed the situation.
5. Leader positions require three written references.  Please have a third reference complete the form available through your AmeriCorps application, or use the Reference Form above.
We cannot make an offer for Leader positions until we receive:
6.  A copy of your driving abstract/record from your state DMV.  Your abstract must go back at least three years, which may mean you need to submit additional abstracts for other states you have had a license in within that timeframe.

Environmental Intern Applicants:
1.  A resume and a cover letter for each position in which you are interested.
2.  Certification Form - This document must be mailed to the NWSA office with an original signature (email or fax not accepted).
3.  Read the NWSA Personal or Organizational Vehicle Use Policy (below) and submit your completed Driver Certification Form and Safety Agreement (Form 27) and Member Personal Vehicle Use Authorization Form (Form 28) (can be emailed with your name typed in signature field)
We cannot make an offer for Intern positions until we receive:
4.  A copy of your driving abstract/record from your state DMV.  Your abstract must go back at least three years, which may mean you need to submit additional abstracts for other states you have had a license in within that timeframe.
5.   Your insurance policy coverage for your personal vehicle showing our minimum requirements. Our Intern Program requires your personal automobile insurance to have a minimum liability coverage of $100,000 for bodily injury per person in an accident; $300,000 for all bodily injuries in an accident; and $50,000 for property damage in an accident.



Returning NWSA Member Applicants:
If you are a current NWSA member or have completed a term with the Mt. Adams Center or Lower Columbia Center, please also email your answers to the following questions:

   1.  What have been your greatest successes during your first year with Northwest Service Academy?
   2.  What have been your greatest struggles during your first year with Northwest Service Academy? How do you plan to address these challenges if you return?
   3.  How do you plan to contribute to our program during the next year, and how will you build off your previous service year? How will this benefit the Northwest Service Academy? How will this benefit your service site? How will this benefit you?
 
If you are applying for a Leader position, please answer the following questions as well. All six questions combined should not be more than 800 words.

   4.  Briefly describe your experience supervising, leading and teaching others.
   5.  Briefly describe a problem you encountered during your prior service experience and how you addressed the situation.
   6. Why do you want to be an NWSA Leader?

 

Member Personal or Organizational Vehicle Use Policy

Personal Vehicle and/or Organizational Vehicle Use for Work/Service Purposes:

  1. Any member that is required to use a personal vehicle or organizational vehicle for work purposes needs to submit a driving abstract (that goes back at least three years).
  2. Any member that is required to use a personal vehicle for work purposes needs to carry minimum auto liability limits of $100,000 for bodily injury per person in an accident; $300,000 for all bodily injuries in an accident; and $50,000 for property damage in an acciden
  3. Any member that is required to use a personal vehicle for work purposes needs to submit proof of vehicle insurance (see #2 above).
  4. Member’s driving record and driving practices need to pass the standards listed in Driver Certification and Safety Agreement (form G-27).
  5. Member’s personal vehicle needs to pass the standards listed in Member Personal Vehicle Use Authorization (form G-28).
  6. For positions that require the use of a personal or organizational vehicle, a potential member’s placement is contingent on passing the standards listed above.  NWSA staff will review and make that determination.

In order to secure your place we recommend applying as early as possible. Positions fill quickly.

  • Eligibility requirements include:

    • Age: 21 years and up

    • United States citizen, national or lawful permanent resident

    • High School diploma or GED equivalency

    • Have not previously served more than three AmeriCorps terms with an AmeriCorps State or National Direct program.
