Alaska VolunTour

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why Alaska?
For our inaugural VolunTour we chose Alaska. The wildlife and wild scenery are unsurpassed. This last frontier is filled with snow-capped peaks, tidewater glaciers, soaring bald eagles, foraging brown bears, and spawning salmon. National parks and forests abound. Native cultures thrive. Activities are endless. Alaska has something for everyone.

Why Service?
For the chance to become immersed in the wildlands, to travel in a way that makes a positive impact. For the chance at an in-depth, hands-on look at the community you are visiting. For the chance to leave with a better understanding of a different corner of your natural world.

Why Alaska Wildland Adventures?
President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn chose to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary with Alaska Wildland Adventures last summer. They were attracted to the company’s dedication to sustainable ecotourism practices and excellent customer service. We chose Alaska Wildand Adventures as our VolunTour operator for similar reasons.

Since 1977, Alaska Wildland Adventures has been leading high quality, small group adventures in Alaska's national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges. They have cultivated a participatory style of travel that allows their guests to experience Alaska’s natural beauty without compromising comfort. In pursuit of excellence, they have grown to operate their own rafting trips, guided hiking and natural history programs, and three custom built uniquely Alaskan lodges. Among their many awards, in 2005 they were named to the prestigious Conde Nast International Green List.

Why YOU?
21st century travelers more and more seek out vacations that in some small way contribute to the greater good of the culture or destination they visit. This is your opportunity to help preserve and protect the environment and give back to a place you cherish. The Alaska VolunTour blends a volunteer day with adventure beyond imagination, exquisite accommodations, and great food. With only 16 spaces available, this trip is sure to fill fast and we wanted you, your family and your friends to be among the first to take advantage of the unique experience.

Why September?
September is one of Alaska’s best kept secrets. Fall colors are at their peak, berries are bursting throughout the tundra, bears and moose are gorging themselves in preparation for the long winter ahead, fresh snow covers the mountain tops, mosquitoes are long gone, and the possibility of Northern Lights in the evening sky is ever-present. September is magical.
